Kelty Trail Dome 6-Person Tent Reviews
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful this casual camper couldn't ask for more!, July 18, 2011 By This review is from: Trail Dome 6 Tent (Misc.) I'm normally an obsessive comparison shopper, but after borrowing this tent from friends for our first camping trip, my husband said, "This tent is perfect -- let's just buy the same one!" Assembly is so easy that he can put the tent up himself while I get dinner started. The 6-person size is ample for our family of four smallish people. (For other novice campers out there: the tents that say they fit 4 mean, literally, that it's physically possible for 4 people to fit in the tent.... Another friend of ours uses an 8-person for her family of 4, but I assume that when our kids get bigger they'll want a separate tent anyway; for now, they like cuddling close.) This tent packs up small and light (at least for base camp use -- I can't speak for backpackers), and seems quite durable with a good fly cover, though we've been lucky enough with weather that ours remains untested in heavy rain. For a casual camper, I don't recommend the perfectly-fitted-but-expensive footprint ground... Read more
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Very Nice Family Tent, October 24, 2011 By mezcalfud (San Diego) - See all my reviews This review is from: Trail Dome 6 Tent (Misc.) I traded the Kelty Buttress 6 for the Trail Dome 6. The Buttress had better ventilation and was a better tent for bad weather but I needed 2 doors and I needed easier exit and entry with the fly on. Little kids will destroy a full fly/vestibule. This tent is more "family" than the other, yet retains most of the qualities such as aluminum poles, quality construction, easy set up and manageable weight. Ventilation is lacking though; not sure why Kelty does not want doors to have screens on them? Regardless, we have a screen tent for hanging out in and this for sleeping.
One thing to remember- this is a big tent although it does not carry or set up like one. I would have given 5 stars for better ventilation, windows and the newer tent pole/clips like on the Gunnisons.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Great water tight tent, April 15, 2012 By This review is from: Trail Dome 6 Tent (Misc.) We got this tent last summer- after doing some research, and narrowing it down to the kelty brand. I really wanted a kelty, since our backpacking tent is from them and is so well made. Our tiny 3-peep back-packing tent has alway kept us warm and dry.
The family domeTent is simple to set up in a few minutes, it's roomy for our family of four, and was even warm enough at the grand canyon this past April when we were camping during a hail storm! The temps dropped into the teens, but surprisingly, we were sung in our sleeping bags inside the tent. We've been rained on several times and the fly works!
Six people could fit, but not much room for gear.
We generally camp in the summer in California, and have been happy campers in this very affordable dome tent.
Happy trails!
